Private Pay

Benefits of Private Pay

By utilizing private pay, mental health care can be private, flexible, and tailored to your needs. Choosing private pay offers several key benefits that enhance the quality and confidentiality of your care. While insurance can provide financial assistance, private pay allows for greater autonomy and a truly personalized therapy experience.

Increased Privacy & Confidentiality

With private pay, your mental health records remain solely between you and your therapist—no insurance involvement, no third-party oversight. This ensures complete confidentiality, which can be especially valuable for professionals, public figures, or anyone concerned about privacy.

Greater Freedom in Treatment Choices

Insurance companies often dictate treatment plans, limiting the type, frequency, and length of sessions. At Healing Juniper Counseling, private pay allows you and your therapist to determine the best course of care without restrictions, ensuring a fully individualized approach.

No Diagnosis Required

Many insurance providers require a formal mental health diagnosis to approve coverage, which may not always be necessary. With private pay, you can receive therapy without a mandatory diagnosis, avoiding unnecessary labels and potential long-term impacts.

Payment

  • Cash, Checks, and all major debit/credit cards are accepted. This also includes health saving accounts and flexible spending accounts. Please make checks payable to Healing Juniper Counseling LLC.

All Payments Are Due At Time of Service

Good Faith Estimate

All uninsured and self pay clients during onboarding, you will be presented with a written Good Faith Estimate, which outlines the cost of your mental health treatment. This is in compliance with the No Surprises Act. For more information visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises

Understanding Insurance, Co-Pays, and Therapy Costs

  • If you plan to use insurance, it’s important to understand your coverage, including co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs.
  • Healing Juniper Counseling uses a billing service that can assist you in utilizing your insurance benefits, making the process easy and convenient.
  • A co-pay is a fixed fee per session, while co-insurance is a percentage of the cost. If you have a deductible, you may need to pay out-of-pocket until it’s met.
  • Verifying these details helps you avoid unexpected expenses and focus on your well-being.

Key Questions to Ask Your Insurance Provider:

  • Is therapy covered under my plan?
  • What is my co-pay or co-insurance per session?
  • Do I have a deductible, and how much has been met?
  • Are there session limits or pre-authorization requirements?

Out of Network

  • If you want to use your insurance, but your insurance is out of network with Healing Juniper Counseling, then:
  1. Check Your Insurance Benefits
  • Call your insurance provider and ask:
    • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
    • What percentage of the session fee is reimbursed?
    • Is there a deductible I need to meet first?
    • How do I submit a claim for reimbursement?
  1. Pay for Your Sessions
  • Clients pay the private pay rate directly at the time of service.
  • This allows for greater flexibility, privacy, and personalized care without insurance restrictions.
  1. Receive a Superbill
  • After your session, we will provide you with a superbill, a detailed invoice that includes the necessary information for insurance reimbursement.
  1. Submit Your Superbill to Insurance
  • Follow your insurance company’s submission process (online portal, mail, or fax).
  • Keep a copy for your records.
  1. Receive Reimbursement (if applicable)
  • If your insurance covers out-of-network services, they will send you reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Important Note: Insurance reimbursement is not guaranteed and varies by plan. We encourage you to verify your benefits before beginning services.

Risks

While using insurance for therapy may seem like a convenient option, it comes with several potential drawbacks that can impact your care and privacy.

  1. Limited Control Over Your Treatment – Insurance companies often dictate the type, length, and frequency of therapy sessions, which may not align with your unique needs. Therapists may be required to justify continued treatment, leading to potential disruptions in care.
  2. Diagnosis Requirement – To receive coverage, most insurance plans require a formal mental health diagnosis. This diagnosis becomes part of your permanent medical record, which could have implications for future employment, life insurance, or other personal matters.
  3. Privacy Concerns – Insurance companies have access to your mental health records, and some information may be shared with third parties. If maintaining confidentiality is important to you, private pay offers a greater level of discretion.
  4. Billing and Reimbursement Challenges – Even with insurance, clients often face unexpected costs, denied claims, or delays in reimbursement. Private pay ensures transparency and predictability in financial matters.. If maintaining confidentiality is important to you, private pay offers a greater level of discretion.

Cancellation Fee

Cancellations less than 24 hours in advance of appointment will be charged a $130 fee.
